Diamond Education Hub was founded by former Head Teacher Cindy Ettienne-Murphy. Working in education for over 25Â years, Cindy experienced first-hand the benefit of sharing resources between teachers and senior staff.
As a Senior Leader, she quickly realised that staff advanced in their careers when they incorporated ‘best practice’ teaching strategies derived from other teaching professionals – sharing resources and expertise.
I’ve been in the education profession for over 25 years and the importance of reading development and vocabulary is crucial and instrumental and has a significant impact on people and children’s lives.
Having a strong grasp of the written word initially starts as a child, and being able to comprehend and be able to read aloud from a young age has an incredibly positive effect when a person reaches adulthood. Strong reading capabilities are essential to succeed in school, in college, or in a job by being able to better comprehend documents or other texts.
A strong vocabulary is also incredibly important and this can start from even as young as five years old. Growing a young child’s vocabulary involves introducing them to words that are outside of their everyday conversations. This could be done through books, speeches or videos that use stimulating words that will help build their understanding and comprehension.

When you come to take tests such as a school exams, the ability to understand and comprehend long words or terms can give you the edge in comparison to someone who doesn’t have the same grasp on these words. It’s essential to make sure you’re up to date on collocations, phrasal verbs, tenses, or spelling so that this won’t be an issue during times where you’d need it the most.

Most importantly, I believe it’s about developing knowledge; with reading comes understanding, with understanding comes growth, and with growth comes success. By investing time into reading and understanding the written language, people have the opportunity to better themselves and reach their full potential.
